ANCHOR
COMMUNITY
In times as intense as these, we need to prioritize being present in the body.
We can’t do it alone. We can’t do it through apps, or with recorded meditations. We can’t do it just by reading books.
We need to practice being present in the body with other people, in community, and within the full context of the current political and global landscape.
We need to practice in ways that go beyond just seeking calm, or chasing a regulated nervous system, and far beyond whatever current trend the wellness industry is forcing on us.
We need each other. And so we need to practice together.
Anchor Community is a somatic learning community.
We gather to practice somatic skills that directly relate to the intensities of all the various crises and catastrophes, both personal and collective, that we are navigating.
While this can sound like it is all doom and gloom, there is so much joy and peace that can come with being with ourselves as we are, and being held in community as we learn to feel what we are feeling as we are feeling it.
The practices shared do not require any specific somatic experience, and are designed to be accessible to all bodies. Everyone is welcome in Anchor Community.
Anchor Community holds as a central tenet that embodiment work is inherently political.
We are working on growing and developing somatic skills to aid us in moving towards a future we all long for: a future where diversity is celebrated, where people of every race and gender are encouraged to express themselves and live a life of their own choosing, a future where we recognize our belonging to the earth and the commitments this requires.
The somatic practices offered in Anchor Community focus on deep internal sensing and subtle breathwork. Movement is offered as an invitation, but in an effort to ensure that this work is truly accessible to everyone, classes are never movement focused.

“Before I joined Anchor, I was feeling disconnected from myself. All brain and emotion, but very little connection with my body. Overwhelmed by the news cycle and folks' reactions to their own perceptions. Anchor has felt like a remembering. Breathing, standing, moving. Relaxing into my actual physical parts... blood, bone, connective tissues. Becoming more part of nature. Learning how my body parts are connected and support me. I've learned how to hold myself, move differently, walk differently! It's a daily practice now. It opens up more space for me. I can give myself space, even if it feels like others don't want to.”
“Before Anchor, I was experiencing an unhealthy level of withdrawal, anxiety, and overwhelm regarding the outside world. I struggled with letting go into a relaxed state of being which affected the quality of my breathing and ability to more fully take in the world around me. I am more present with my feelings and physical sensations with less story attached. I have a greater capacity to be with what is uncomfortable and not withdraw or shut down. I feel support that does not depend on anyone else or on me being a certain way.”
“One of the things I have begin to notice in recent years is the fact that I am almost always unconsciously living in the future- anticipating, worrying, often fearing- a few days, weeks, or longer in the future, or sometimes it's even just a few moments in the future. There's some part of me that is always trying to protect myself from being surprised by something unexpected. And it's so hard to remember to just bring myself back. Anchor has helped me learn to STAY with my body.”
“I joined Anchor because I was feeling anxious and uneasy, and tired. Now I listen to my body and KNOW that I need to ground myself and now I have better tools to do so. I'm calmer for certain and able to calm myself more easily.”
“Of all the many techniques I've explored, this has been the most practical, easy to assimilate, and has produced measurable results in my vital sign measurements.”
“The practice with my body that I’ve cultivated and deepened in Anchor is one of the most magical things in my life and I am so grateful for you. This experience has been wild and almost fully played out in my body as things- old traumas and new hurts- move up and out and through because you’ve helped me understand so much more. Thank you forever”
